At Dokos ("we", "our", or "us"), your privacy is a top priority. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Dokos desktop application and visit our website at https://dokos.app.
1. Data Collection
Dokos is a local-first application. All file processing happens entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your documents, files, or personal data on our servers.
We do not collect:
- The contents of any files you open or edit
- Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
- Location data
The application does collect anonymous usage telemetry to help us improve Dokos. See Section 4 for details on how telemetry works and how to disable it.
2. Local Storage
Any preferences and application settings (such as theme selection or window size) are stored locally on your device using standard OS mechanisms. This data never leaves your machine. We do not use cookies or tracking technologies within the application.
3. Website Analytics
Our website (dokos.app) uses Umami Analytics, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics solution. Umami does not use cookies and does not collect any personally identifiable information. It only collects aggregated, anonymous page view statistics to help us understand which content is most useful.
4. App Telemetry (Aptabase)
Dokos uses Aptabase, a privacy-first, open-source analytics platform, to collect anonymous usage telemetry. This helps us understand which features are most used and improve the application over time.
What Aptabase collects:
- Anonymous event names (e.g., which viewers are opened)
- Operating system and app version
- Country-level location (derived from IP, not stored)
What Aptabase does not collect:
- The contents of any files you open
- Any personally identifiable information
- Persistent device identifiers or fingerprints
Aptabase is designed to be GDPR-compliant and does not build user profiles or share data with third parties. You can learn more at aptabase.com.
Opting Out
Telemetry is opt-out. You can disable it at any time in two ways:
- On first launch — a prompt lets you enable or disable telemetry before any data is sent
- At any time — go to Settings → Privacy and toggle telemetry off
When telemetry is disabled, no data is sent to Aptabase or any other service.
5. Distribution Channels
The Dokos application is distributed through:
- Microsoft Store — subject to Microsoft's own privacy policy
- Direct download from dokos.app — no account required
When you download via the Microsoft Store, Microsoft may collect data as per their Privacy Statement. We do not control or have access to any such data.
6. Children's Privacy
Dokos is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since we collect no personal data at all, Dokos is safe for users of all ages.
7. Data Security
Because we do not collect or store your data, there is no personal data at risk on our end. Your files and preferences remain on your device and are protected by your operating system's own security mechanisms.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
